Working with families for over twenty years in both church settings and the public sector, we have compiled key skills and attitudes that parents have told us made the greatest impact on their understanding of their children, and themselves. This book contains specific skills parents can develop through active learning experiences. As educators, we believe much is gained through self-discovery.
Parental attitudes also are explored in this text. Taking the time to clarify attitudes about children, parental roles and relationships can help parents make purposeful decisions in their interactions with their children. Our writing and teaching encourage parents to explore their own attitudes, hear some additional information, and then make choices that will be most effective in their own families.
Real Stories from Real People
“I just wanted to let you know I am really enjoying the book and I am so excited about what I am learning. I feel so inspired to do a better job at parenting now that I have some guidance and I am not so frustrated. I have gotten through half the book.
The 1st chapter, knowing God has a plan for me as a parent and the fact that God gave me these children and challenges for a reason really hit home. I think I knew that deep down inside, however I lost sight of that. As I sat through Mass today I was able to thank God for my challenges versus constantly worrying and asking him for help. I just want to thank you.
I am going to tell all of my friends about your book once I get through it. I have a group of friends who want to start a book club. I think this book would be an awesome book to study together, provided everyone would want to focus on the kids and family. I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for making a difference in the way I was feeling and for offering such a great tool. I truly appreciate it.” -Mother of 3
“We have had two small group meetings and we love this book! We skipped the second chapter because we loved it so much that we are using it at our annual winter women’s retreat. We did the third chapter last week about Thomas and it was great.
In this session we got to take a good look at our own personalities and traits and how they work for or against our parenting styles. There is something for parents with children of all ages to relate to. The thing I think I like best about this Bible study is that it is different every time you use it, depending on who is in the group.” -Church Small Group Leader
